To fit the coupling, depress the 2 buttons and release when the end of the coupling has been inserted into the evacuation hole in the centre on the underside of the platen. The coupling for the RH Paintings Suction Platen should be connected to a vacuum cleaner with speed control, by the vacuum hose.
The platen is then put on a photographic tripod, attached by the ¼” 20 threaded hole in the underside.
When fitting the RH Suction Platen into the area to be treated, care should be taken to prevent accidental damage by the corners of the platen.
Optimum results are achieved with a minimum of vacuum, as higher vacuum means greater air leakage, and air leakage causes disruption to the uniform heat distribution. The vacuum should always be on before the heating is started, for stable heating, the platen must be in uniform contact with the work/canvas verso. The heating parameters rely on the mass of the work being treated for accurate results.
There should be no reason for it to be dismantled at any time.
If using a vacuum cleaner as a source of vacuum, it is advisable to use a wet and dry industrial type and if solvents are to be used, check the vacuum cleaner manufacturer's instructions.
Please Note: When cleaning the RH Heated Paintings Suction Platen no abrasive cleaners or strong alkalis should be used.
RH equipment is intended for use only by professional conservators. Use by inexperienced operators may result in damage to objects being treated.
